Retrospective Intellectual Disability Diagnosis
Retrospective Diagnosis of Adults Where There is a Query of Intellectual Disability
A retrospective diagnosis on adults over 18 years can be carried-out where there is suspicion of an intellectual disability previously undiagnosed. A comprehensive developmental, social, medical and educational history prior to aged 18 years is essential in these cases.
Intellectual Disability Assessment
The evaluation of Intellectual Disability involves assessment of three criteria:
· Intellectual functioning
· Adaptive behaviour
· Age of onset before the age of 18 years
Assessment includes a comprehensive clinical interview and review of relevant sources to compile a developmental history, IQ assessment to determine ability in verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed, and a measure of adaptive behaviour to determine conceptual skills, social skills and practical skills.
